Hot section exchange required?

VBR provides cost-effective solutions

Major impact of a hot section exchange

The major share of a gas turbine maintenance budget is assigned to engine overhauls and hot section exchanges. The standard procedure for hot section exchange as advised by the OEM requires shutting down the operation and shipping the engine to a OEM licensed overhaul depot. A temporary solution must be arranged, such as installing a lease engine. The re-installation of the returned engine with the new hot section requires another shut down.

Obviously this is a very costly, effortful and time consuming procedure.

On-site exchange

VBR Turbine Partners provides an alternative to the conventional method with our on-site hot section inspection and exchange services. VBR has the required expertise, capabilities, experience and tooling to exchange a hot section on-site for inspection, cleaning and/or replacement. This on-site exchange requires only one shut down, is much faster and therefore much more cost-effective.

When the old hot section is no longer adequate, VBR can advise about possible solutions for client's specific business purposes (both economical and technical). This way gas turbine owners & operators can make well-informed decisions about the best possible and most cost-effective solutions for their specific situation in both the short and the long term.

Alternatives for buying a brand new hot section can be cleaning of the removed hot section (if appropriate, to extend its lifetime), leasing a temporary engine, using an overhauled hot section in zero-hour condition, placement of a used servicable hot section or using a hot section from stock. Costs for leasing a tempory replacement engine can be avoided by putting a temporary hot section into the engine. To further reduce costs VBR can support in refurbishing or selling the removed hot section.

Benefits

  • much shorter turnaround time
  • much shorter total down time, operation can be resumed more quickly which will result in a massive cost saving
  • potential cost saving on hot section replacement.
